Our Apprentices Make The Headlines!

The Perfect Way to Earn While You Learn

Firth & Scott Insurance Brokers Ltd have always been big supporters of apprentices - ever since their first apprentice (on a Government Youth Training Scheme at the time) 25 years ago!  This apprentice, Justin Hevness, worked his way through the company to become the Managing Director and is now responsible for recruiting new apprentices, hopefully to follow a similar path.

Over the years Firth & Scott have employed many apprentices who have been successful and currently we have two very good Trainee Insurance Brokers, Hannah Williams and Stevie Ridgley, who are both gaining valuable experience AND taking examinations whilst working.

Nottinghamshire CII Young Achiever of the Year Competition

Firth & Scott Insurance Brokers Hannah Williams Notts CII Dinner Awards Firth & Scott Insurance Brokers Ltd attended the Chartered Insurance Institute Annual Dinner on Friday 27 January 2012.

We were particularly excited as Hannah Williams our young apprentice was in the top three nominees for the Nottinghamshire CII Young Achiever of the Year competition.  I spoke to the organiser of this who said that they had received many nominations this year and they were of a very high standard.

The top three nominees were very close and it was very hard for the judges to make a decision, but unfortunately Hannah came joint second.  As the standards were so high and there was only one point between them, they awarded the two runners up with a bottle of Champagne, which is very unusual.

We are very proud that Hannah was in the top three and hope she will keep her high standards and progress so that we may nominate her in future years.

Well done Hannah!!

Winter Freeze - Hints & Tips

In light of recent reports that the British weather might soon be taking a turn for the worse, with freezing temperatures and snowfall expected as soon as the end of October, we thought it an opportune time to provide you with hints and tips to help you remain safe this winter.

It is impossible to forget the impact of last winter's big freeze, with claim levels sky rocketing well into the New Year.  Motorists and homeowners alike struggled to protect themselves and their property against the unexpected harsh winter weather.

How can we help?

The links below provide guidance from our friends at the Allianz, for motorists to prepare themselves for a winter of incident-free driving, and for homeowners to help reduce the likelihood of frozen pipes, or lessen the impact should they be unfortunate enough to encounter them.

Please click here for the Motor factsheet.

Please click here for the Home factsheet.

Of course, if you do suffer a loss, then please ring Firth & Scott on 0115 8400 300 in the first instance to report the claim or for any advice.

A Quarter of a Century & still going!!!

Justin Hevness, Managing Director of Firth & Scott Insurance Brokers Ltd celebrates his 25 years at Firth & Scott on 6 October 2011.

"Having started on a Government sponsored Youth Training Scheme on the 6 October 1986 on a minimal wage, under the direct supervision of Derek Allwright, I have worked my way through the various roles within the company and progressed through the various management positions. I spent time working between the two offices we had in Arnold and Sherwood and can honestly say I have worked in every position at Firth & Scott.

I have worked with some wonderfully professional people over the years who have guided me and made me a stronger person, both on a professional and personal level and hope to pass these skills on to my current staff and the new generation of staff.  In fact, when I started work at Firth & Scott back in October 1986 the three youngest members of my team:  Samantha Scothern, Hannah Williams, and Stevie Ridgley hadn't even been born!

Firth & Scott has always been an interesting and fun place to work and I am looking forward to the next 25 years and the challenges it will bring".

Steve Hopkins, fellow Director during this time and good friend stated:

"The last 25 years have flown by and it has been a real pleasure to work with Justin during this period of time and to see him develop and mature to become the Managing Director of the Insurance Broking company.

Firth & Scott Insurance Brokers Ltd is in safe hands with Justin and it is with confidence that I also look forward to the next 25 years and the next generation of insurance brokers coming through the firm under the direct supervision of Justin".

Letter to the Nottingham Evening Post - April 2011

Dear Mr Tresidder,

The Evening Post seems to take a keen interest in what is happening in Sherwood and I thought that you might like to hear from Firth & Scott, who have been in business in the centre of Sherwood since November 1972 (and before that in Arnold).

What leads me to write to you is that Firth & Scott Insurance Brokers Ltd  have recently achieved the status of Chartered Insurance Brokers. We are the first firm in the City to be awarded this qualification and only the 72nd in the entire country.

Before the decision to award Corporate Chartered status, individual Insurance Brokers could achieve Chartered status but now the qualification can be awarded to  those firms who are willing to commit to the Chartered  Insurance Institute’s Code of Ethics and who meet rigorous criteria relating to professionalism and capability.

Chairman Derek Allwright described securing certification as a landmark for his firm.

He is particularly proud that Firth & Scott  (Insurance Brokers) Ltd, have followed the example of  their associated Company Firth & Scott Financial Services Ltd who in 2008 were the first IFA company in Nottingham to be awarded the prestigious ‘Chartered Financial Planners' title by The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

Firth & Scott offers a full range of Insurance and Financial advice both personal and for business given by 5 Directors, each with a substantial shareholding, who between them have been advising  Firth & Scott clients for 125 years.

Yours sincerely,

D M Allwright

Managing Director, Steve Hopkins, who is himself a Chartered Financial Planner, says that securing Chartered Financial Planners status is a landmark for his company:

“We have always prided ourselves on being thoroughly professional in everything we do, and to receive external recognition in this way is very gratifying. As Chartered Financial Planners, and particularly in a time of turbulent and difficult financial markets, we can give reassurance and a commitment to maintaining the very highest levels of service to our customers.”
